A mediated divorce generally costs a fraction of a litigated divorce. Most lawyers will require an up-front retainer of $3,500 - $7,500. I (and many other mediators) do not, preferring a "pay-as-you-go" approach. To make mediation more accessible to those who would benefit from these services, I have recently adopted a sliding fee scale.
